In the churchyard of St Mary's Church, Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight, PO30 1SS. IWM War Memorials Archive Record Link : War Memorials Archive Reference 21737 Historic England Listing Status The War Memorial was Listed as Grade II by Historic England in 2019. See Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight, HE Listing Description Stone cross. Base has 2 panels for WW I names, a plaque for WW II, and a later panel for the WW II names. Erected by public subscription, and unveiled 8th May 1921 by Lady Seely. Dedicated by the Bishop of Southampton. A small plaque with no names, in recognition of the World War II losses, was installed in 1994, funded by the Daisy Rich Trust, and the Newport and Carisbrooke branch of the Royal British Legion. A panel giving the names of 18 men who died in World War II was added in 2001. A further Great War name was added to the 1939-45 panel in 2002 or 2003. The name of G Goulding who died in the Malayan Emergency has also been added. The additional Portland stone panel was executed by Wight Stonemasonry Ltd. |
