Newport Town Councillor
Killed in Action.
News was received at Newport, Isle of Wight, on Wednesday morning, of the death of Lieut. Sydney Knott, who before joining up was a member of the Town Council there. He was attached to the 3rd Worcestershire Regiment, and was killed in action on Saturday. Much sympathy is felt with the bereaved widow and other members of the family, including his father-in-law, Alderman R.B. Cheverton, J.P.

... The Chairman referred in the course of a sympathetic speech to the death of Lieut. Knott, a prominent Oddfellow killed in action, and to the death of 12 other brethren who had laid down their lives for their Country. ...
