September 20, 1919 THE CHURCH WAR MEMORIAL. A full-size wooden model of the handsome war memorial cross to be erected in the parish churchyard has been placed in various positions near the entrance to the church during the week so that subscribers may decide on the most suitable position. The model, which was constructed by Mr J. Twyman, shows clearly what a handsome monument the cross will form. It has been designed by Mr Percy G. Stone, F.S.A., and consists of a plain cross about 8ft in height, with a downward pointing sword carved in relief on the front, mounted on a three-tier base, bearing the inscription "Non sibi, sed patriae" (not for himself but for his country). The names of the fallen are to appear on four panels at the foot.
