Description A brass plaque, approx 24" x 15", originally erected in the Chapel of Weston Manor on 23rd October 1915. St Saviour's R.C. Church was built in 1923; it is presumed that the Memorial plaque was relocated at about this time. |

Further Information William Edmund White Son of : William White and Mary Ann White (formerly Downer, née Morris) of Clovelley Yard, Freshwater, Isle of Wight. Born : 1878, Freshwater, Isle of Wight Census information : 1881 : William and Mary White, with their children including William aged 2, are at 5 Bricklayer's Cottages, Freshwater. William White is a Bricklayer. 1891 : William and Mary White, with their children including William aged 12, are at Rose Cottage, Freshwater. William White is a Bricklayer. 1901 : not located 1911 : not located Service information : Lance-Serjeant 4/10151 William Edward White, 10th. Bn., Durham Light Infantry. Enlisted : Gateshead, Co Durham. Casualty information : Died : 16 Sept 1916, aged 38. Commemorated at : Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. CWGC Record Note that his military records give his middle name as Edward; Edmund does not seem to appear in the records other than on the Plaque itself. William Edmund White does not appear to be commemorated on any other Island War Memorial.
