Saturday, November 19, 1945 Page 8 THE ISLAND AND THE WAR NEWPORT DIED IN CAPTIVITY News was received on Monday by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Whittington, 30 Hunnyhill, of the death on July 7th of their only son, Lance-Sergt. Basil Arthur Whittington, R.A., while a prisoner in Japanese hands at Kuching camp, Borneo. Similar sad news has also been received of the death of his comrade in captivity, Gunner Kenneth Dudley, R.A., son of the late Mr. F.W. Dudley and Mrs. Dudley, of Woodleigh, Castle-road, whose wife (formerly Miss Mary Taylor) lives at Priory-road, Carisbrooke. Both were captured at the fall of Singapore. |
