IN LOVING MEMORY OF GEORGE ALFRED DENNETT 1/8 HANTS REGT. WHO FELL IN THE BATTLE OF GAZA APRIL 19TH 1917 AGED 22 YEARS Further Information CWGC record ... Commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial, Israel. George Alfred Dennett was born in Sandown in 1895, the son of Arthur Pope Dennett and Frances Dennett (née White). Census 1901 : the family are at Brickfields Cottages, Totland. Census 1911 : the family are at West Green, Sheepwash, Freshwater. George's occupation is given as telegraph messenger. George Alfred Dennett served as Rifleman 2730 (later 331042) 1/8th Bn Hampshire Regiment (Isle of Wight Rifles). He was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal. His brothers Arthur Henry (b. 1887) and Walter Edward (b. 1888) also served with the Hampshire Regiment in the Great War. Arthur Henry Dennett was awarded the Military Medal.
