LIEUTENANT H GRAMSHAW S STAFFORDSHIRE REGIMENT 28TH FEBRUARY 1916 AGED 29 + IN LOVING MEMORY OF HUGH ONLY SON OF THE LATE CHARLES R GRAMSHAW OF GRAVESEND WHO DIED 28TH FEBRUARY 1916 AGED 29 YEARS Further Information
It is not known why Lt Gramshaw is buried at Earsdon - presumably the S Staffordshire Regiment were located in the area,
or possibly there was a hospital nearby. It is also not known why he is commemorated on the Ryde, Isle of Wight War memorial
when his place of birth was Gravesend. Nevertheless, with just one person matching this name on CWGC and SDGW records, there
can be little doubt that the memorial and the grave are of the same man.
