Friday, February 1, 1918 Page 3 Mr. and Mrs. G. Young, 2, Albany Villas, Upper Ventnor, have received official notice that their eldest son, Rifleman E.L. Young, aged 24, 1/8th Hants, D. Co., was killed in action at the battle of Gaza, April 19th, 1917. He was reported missing at the time. He joined the Rifles at the outbreak of war, and after doing coast duty at various places he was sent to Egypt in July, 1916. He was in the employ of the District Council just before the war. He was a member of the Ventnor Football Club, and played for the reserves.

Proceeding, the Chairman proposed votes of condolence with Mrs. Warren, who had seven sons in the Army and has lost three, with Mrs. T. Dennis, who has lost her son in Palestine, and with Mr. and Mrs. G. Young, 2, Albany Villas, Upper Ventnor, who had also lost a son, apparently at the Battle of Gaza, and who was formerly in the employ of the Council. (not all the report has been transcribed)
