News is to hand that Lance-Corporal W. Saunders, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Saunders, of Bonchurch, has been killed. He was in the 1st Hants Regiment and attached to the trench mortar battery. Lance-Corporal Saunders went to the Dardanelles with the 29th Division and was wounded in the lungs. After a brief rest at home he was sent to France and was again wounded which necessitated his detention in a French hospital. Recovering, he went to the front line and was instantaneously killed on November 20th. He was a bright and promising lad and greatly liked by his friends and associates in the village. The family will be the recipients of deep sympathy in their bereavement. Deceased's father, who is an employee of Daniel Day and Sons, has received a letter of condolence and appreciation of his son's work from the commanding officer of the Battalion.
