Friday, October 15, 1915 Page 1, column 4 Echoes of the Week Mr. and Mrs. J. Salter, Upper Ventnor, have just received the sad official intelligence that Rifleman Albert Salter, 1/8th Hants Regiment, has died of wounds received at the Dardanelles on September 17th. This is a particularly heavy blow to the family as Mr. and Mrs. Salter's eldest son (*) was killed in action on April 26th. They have another son in the Field Artillery in France. The fullest sympathy will be felt for the family in their further bereavement. |

Further Information :
Annie Salter married Henri Frank Chiverton in 1899. He died in 1902; She remarried, George Gatrell, later in 1902. She died in 1910 of pneumonia. Mr and Mrs J. Salter's eldest son was James Henry Salter. The other son was Albert George Salter (Driver 45744, R.F.A.) who was born in Ventnor in 1889. He served in a heavy anti-aircraft battery during the 2nd World War and died in Ventnor in 1967, aged 79. |
