Saturday, September 18, 1915 RYDE ... Pte. James Callaway, 2nd Hants Regiment, third son of Mr. and Mrs. Callaway, of 20 Cross-street,
is officially reported missing since the fighting at the Dardanelles on August 6th. Pte. Callaway,
who really belongs to the 1st Hants, went to France with his battalion at the commencement of
hostilities, coming home after eight months' fighting slightly wounded in the hip and suffering from
frost-bite and nervous breakdown. After eight weeks' rest he was attached to the 2nd Battalion of
the regiment and sent to the Dardanelles, where he has been fighting ever since. His father and three
brothers are all engaged on Government work. ... |
