MARRIAGE. - The marriage took place at St. Boniface Church on December 27th, amid the beautiful Xmas decorations, of Mr. George Hitchman, of Bonchurch, and Miss Georgina Hurll (daughter of Mr. W. Hurll, of Ventnor). The bride, who was given away by her father, was attended by her sister, Miss Ethel Hurll, and Miss Elsie Cook (niece). Mr. A.E. Russell (of East Cowes) carried out the duties of best man. Mr. F.C.Y. Smith, organist of the Church, kindly played appropriate music during the assembly of the wedding party, and the Wedding March as the bride and bridegroom left the Church. The presents were numerous and useful.

We regret to hear that Private George Hitchman, son of Mr. Joseph Hitchman, of Bonchurch, has been killed in action. He formerly worked for Mr. Tuddenham, and afterwards for Mr. A.J. Sharpe. Three years ago he married a daughter of Mr. W. Hurll, with whom and the little child, much sympathy is felt. Private Hitchman joined the Army about twelve months ago. He was in the Royal Engineers, and we understand he was engaged with a party in cutting wire when he was shot. Private Hitchman has another brother in the Army, who came over with the Australian Imperial Force.

Bonchurch is paying its share of the grim toll of war. No less than six men from the village have made the supreme sacrifice, and it is a curious coincidence that all those who have fallen bore the Christian name of George, namely: George Hitchman, George White, George Hastings [1], George Russell, George Woodford, and George Harbourne.

[1] this should be George Sterling
