Service details : AB 240777 Alfred Edward Groves, Royal Navy, HMS Viknor. Alfred Edward Groves enlisted for service on 4 April 1901 for a 12 year engagement. He was 5 ft 6 in tall with dark brown hair, grey eyes and fresh complexion. He had tattoos consisting of clasped hands thro' heart on both wrists, and a heart pierced by an arrow on his left forearm. He was discharged to the Royal Fleet Reserve in 1913 but was re-engaged for war service on 2 August 1914. He died in the loss of HMS Viknor, believed to have struck a mine. |
