Son of : George Cooley and Vashti Cooley (née Wearn[e]), of Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight.

Born : 1887, Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight.
  Census information :

1891 : George and Vashti Cooley, with their children including Evelyn, aged 3, are at the Warders' Quarters, Parkhurst Convict Prison, Isle of Wight. George Cooley is a Warder at the Prison.

1901 : Vashti Cooley, Widow, with two of her children including Evelyn, aged 13, are at 2 Creache Cottages, Northwood, Isle of Wight.

1911 : Vashti Cooley, Widow, with two of her children including Evelyn, aged 23, are at Horsebridge Hill, Parkhurst, Newport, Isle of Wight. Evelyn Cooley is a Carpenter.

Lce-Cpl 23035 Evelyn Walter Cooley, 1st Bn., Hampshire Regiment.

It appears that Evelyn Cooley enlisted in the Dorsetshire Regiment, and later transferred to the Hampshire Regiment.

Died : 23 August 1916, aged 29.

Buried at : Cambrin Churchyard Extension, Pas de Calais, France.

  Family information :

On the CWGC Headstone schedules for Evelyn Cooley's grave marker, the name and address is given as Mrs V.L. Burridge, 39 Kimboldon Road (sic), Copnor, Portsmouth, who is his sister, Vashti Louisa, who married Edward Burridge in 1896.

His brother, Edgar John Cooley (b. 18 Apr 1884) served in the Royal Navy as an Officers' Steward from 1911 to 1915.
