Unknown person Name : George Henry Bush.

Son of George Henry William Bush and his wife Ruth Ann Maria (nee Bull), of Ventnor, later of 2, Boxworth Cottages, King's Rd., Haslemere, Surrey.

Born 1878 Ventnor. (His RN service papers give his date of birth as 15 March 1880).

Married 1910 Edith Mattock, Isle of Wight.

George and Ruth Bush with their younger children moved to Haslemere in 1913.

George Henry Bush was engaged as a Boy 2 cl on 15 March 1898 for 12 years service. At the time he was 5 ft 6½ in tall, with light brown hair, grey eyes and fair complexion. He was re-engaged in 1910 and served throughout the Great War, being finally discharged on 27 May 1920.

BUSH. - Oct. 8th George Henry Bush, of 42 Wilton Park Road, Shanklin, aged 84.

SHANKLIN
Naval Veteran's Death. - Mr. George Henry Bush, aged 84, of 42 Wilton Park Road, died on Monday. He was still in his teens when he joined the Royal Navy and for 22 years he served aboard many famous ships. It was while serving with H.M.S. Terrible that he first saw action, fighting with a group from the ship at the Boer War battles of Ladysmith and Mafeking. When Terrible was moved to the China station, Mr. Bush fought on land in the Boxer Rising. During the 1914-18 war he served in Dido, Victory, and Tropaxe. For several years between the wars he was a longshoreman here and during the last war he worked at the Fawley aircraft factory. Mr. Bush, who retired five years ago, was a member of the Liberal Club. He is survived by a widow and son.

A former Ventnor man who served in four wars - Boer, Boxer, and the two world struggles - has died at Shanklin at the age of 84. He was Mr. George Bush, who was born in Ventnor, and he leaves a widow and one son.

The late Mr. G.H. Bush. - The funeral took place on Friday week of Mr. George Henry Bush, aged 84 of 42 Wilton Park Road. The service at St Paul's Church was conducted by the vicar (the Rev. L.J. Todd). The mourners were Mrs. E. Bush (widow), Mr. and Mrs. L. Bush (son and daughter-in-law), Messrs. R. and C. Bush (nephews), Miss B. Bush and Mrs. E. Moorman (nieces), Mrs. Siggens (great-niece), Mr. F. Bush (brother), Miss Peggy Robinson, Mr. and Mrs. F. Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. J. Moorman and family, Mrs. D. Moody and W. J. Moody. Interment was at the cemetery. The arrangements were made by Messrs. White Bros.
  Further Information :

His brother Charles Edward BUSH died on 9th December 1900 as a result of standing for 5 hours as part of the Hampshire Militia welcome guard of honour to General Buller. He had served less than 3 months in the Militia, and had previously been rejected for service due to being underweight and having chest problems.

His brother James BUSH died during World War I.
