ISLE OF WIGHT MERCURY
Friday, March 1, 1918 Page 2 It is rumoured that a son of Mr. Beavis, of Upper Ventnor, was on the hospital ship Glenart Castle, which was torpedoed by the Germans. A Ventnorian who is on the point of sailing in a sister ship to the Glenart Castle writes this morning as follows: "The utmost concern reigns here as our sister ship was torpedoed in this neighbourhood. I have reason to believe that young Beavis, of Upper Ventnor, was aboard her, and I am sorry to note that he is not among those at present reported saved. Still, other boats may turn up yet." |
