Henry Attrill is a Gas Stoker. 1901 : Henry and Mary Attrill, with their children including Arthur aged 18, are at 2 Oakfield Hill, Ryde, Henry Attrill is a Gas Stoker, Arthur Attrill is an Errand Boy. 1911 : Henry and Mary Attrill, with their children including Arthur aged 28, are at 2 Oakfield Hill, Ryde, Henry Attrill is a Gas Stoker, Arthur Attrill is a Carter for a Builder. A photograph dated 1902 (see below) shows Arthur as a Bandsman with the Salvation Army in Ryde. He later worked in the Welsh mines - the family has a snuff box dated 1903, when he and his brother Tom Henry Attrill were employed at Cwmcarn Coal Mine. |

Service details : Private 23144 Arthur Stephen Attrill, 1st Bn. Hampshire Regiment. Enlisted in 1914, and in August 1914 was with the Regiment at Colchester. The Battalion disembarked at Le Havre on 23 Aug 1914. Arthur Stephen Attrill died as a result of gas poisoning at No 3 Canadian Clearing Station in Belgium. |
