The aircraft took off at 16.22 hrs from RAF Smellingthorpe for Ops on Berlin, and was hit by flak, setting it on fire. P/O Thomas tried to extinguish the fire but failed and bailed out. He was taken prisoner, but the rest of the crew were killed and are buried together at the Berlin 1939-45 War Cemetery.
