Biography

Rifleman 675 A E Downer, 1/8th Bn Hampshire Regiment (Isle of Wight Rifles)
Albert Edward Downer was the second son of Charles and Ellen Downer (nee Pitman). He had 6 siblings. One sister died of diphtheria in 1901. His mother and father are buried at Calbourne along with some of his sisters.
He was killed in action at Gallipoli on 31st October 1915, aged 23.
His death was reported in the Isle of Wight County Press of 20th November 1915.

He is buried at 7th Field Ambulance Cemetery, in Turkey.
