Thomas Coleman was born in 1888 at Marsh Green, Brighstone, the son of Frank Coleman (an agricultural labourer) and his wife Elizabeth (nee Barnes). In 1891 the family were living with Franks' widowed mother Ann at Marsh Green. By 1901, Frank and Elizabeth Coleman and their family are still shown at Marsh Green, where Frank is a dairyman's assistant. Thomas attended Brighstone National School. In 1911, still at the same address, Thomas is a General labourer. He moved to Australia in 1913 at the age of 25, settling in Melbourne. His AWM papers give his trade at this time as dairyman. He was killed in action at Walker's Ridge, Anzac Cove.
