The aircraft took off at 16.00 hrs from RAF Skipton-on-Swale for Ops over Dortmund, but was shot down by flak whilst bombing. Four crew were killed, and three were taken prisoner. P/O Valentine was a PoW in Camp L3, P/O Lee and F/O English in Camp 6J. The four deceased were buried in adjacent graves at Reichswald Forest War Cemetery.

Sgt Dollery lived at Nunwell Park, Brading, Isle of Wight, but is not commemorated on the Brading memorial.
