40 ROYAL MARINE COMMANDO 1942 - 1946 IN MEMORY OF OUR COMRADES WHO REMAIN ON FOREIGN FIELDS Before the raid on Dieppe on August 19th, 1942 this Chine was used by 40 Commando Royal Marines for daily training. The Headquarters was established at Upper Chine School and the Commando was billeted in Shanklin, Sandown and Ventnor. The Commando subsequently took part in the invasion of Sicily and Italy, in operations in Yugoslavia and the final defeat of the German Army in Northern Italy. FIDELITY WAS SUNK BY ENEMY ACTION 30th December 1942 THE REBUILDING AND ENHANCEMENT OF THE SURROUNDS TO THE 40 ROYAL MARINES COMMANDO MEMORIAL WAS FINANCED BY A LEGACY FROM THE LATE PETER FISHER WHO WAS SECRETARY TO 40 ROYAL MARINES COMMANDO ASSOCIATION (1942-46) IT WAS DUE TO HIS INTEGRITY AND DILIGENCE THAT THE ASSOCIATION BECAME ONE OF EXCELLENCE AND PRIDE AN ABSENT FRIEND REMEMBERED IN MEMORY OF KEN MORRIS CO-FOUNDER AND CHAIRMAN OF 40 ROYAL MARINES COMMANDO ASSOCIATION (1942-46) HIS INNATE KINDNESS AND WISDOM RAISED THE ASSOCIATION ABOVE THE MANY THE MEMORIAL SEATS WERE DONATED BY THE LATE DENIS LENIHAN WHO SERVED IN 40 ROYAL MARINES COMMANDO FROM 1942 UNTIL THE CESSATION OF HOSTILITIES IN 1945 AND WAS A STAUNCH MEMBER OF 40 ROYAL MARINES COMMANDO ASSOCIATION (1942-46) AN ABSENT FRIEND REMEMBERED In Memory of Ronald G BLOSS 1923 - 2007 Hon Treasurer 1997 - 2007 40 Royal Marines Commando (1942-46) Association DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF LIEUT.
