ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY PRESS

Saturday 14 November 1914

Unfeigned regret will be felt at the death of Capt. Formby, of the Wiltshire Regiment, son-in-law of Mr Percy G. Stone, F.S.A., of Merston, who was killed in action on October 26th. The deceased officer was shot in the head and died in half an hour without regaining consciousness. Capt. Formby had displayed conspicuous gallantry, which, in the opinion of competent judges, would have merited official recognition had he been spared. He had collected stragglers, and for five hours had put up a brave stand against German odds. The deceased officer served in the Boer War and was in India with his regiment for some time. He leaves a widow and two children.
