Soldier Hero Sentenced For Manslaughter.

Mr. Justice Scrutton had before him at the Hants Assizes on Wednesday a soldier named Thomas William Edgar (*), 26, who was indicted for feloniously killing Frederick Fifield, at Newport, on December 11th. The prisoner pleaded guilty. Mr. Blake Odgers, for the prisoner, said the man had been at the Front and had been wounded in the arm.
Col.-Sergt. Franklin, of the Warwickshire Regt., said he had known prisoner for six years, and had always found him a respectable, willing and obedient soldier.
His Lordship passed a sentence of four months imprisonment with hard labour.


(*) Pte 9656 Thomas William Edgar, 9th Bn., Royal Warwickshire Regiment, was killed in action in Mesopotamia on 19 April 1916.
