Flt Sgt Cox was the son of William James Cox and Edith Annie Cox, of Barnes, Surrey.

The aircraft took off at 17.50 hrs from RAF Thelthorpe on Ops to Frankfurt, but crashed into the English Channel. Three crewmen whose bodies were not found are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, while others are buried at Parkhurst, Chichester and Newport in Monmouthshire.
