Son of : Alfred Lionel Newnham and Fanny Newnham (née Goslin), of Newport.

Born : 19 November 1918, Newport. (Registered as Aubrey Leslie Newnham)

2nd April 1928 to 23rd December 1932 : Attended Parkhurst / Hunnyhill School, Newport. The family lived at 63 Hunnyhill, Newport.

On 24th February 1945, an Avro Lancaster bomber (RF137 QR-E of 61 Sqn), having returned to RAF Skellingthorpe in Lincolnshire from a raid, was being disarmed when it suddenly blew up killing a number of the ground crew, and injuring many more. Ldg Aircraftmen Benjamin Burnell, Claude Henry Higgins and Henry George Wilson were among those killed.
