Flt Sgt Grosvenor was the son of James Alfred and Constance Florence Grosvenor, of Katihar, Bihar, India. His birth was registered in Stourbridge, Lancashire, in Mar 1921 qtr.
It is not known what connection the family
had with the Isle of Wight but their son was buried at Carisbrooke Cemetery. He is commemorated at the Trafford Park War Memorial.
The aircraft took off at 17.50 hrs from RAF Finningley on a night flying exercise, and on returning to base at 01:50 hrs was shot
down by a German night fighter in the landing circuit. The aircraft crashed 9 miles NNW of Retford, Nottingham. All the crew were killed.
