At Winchester Cathedral, Winchester, Hampshire Description A cross 28 ft high located opposite the West door of Winchester Cathedral. The cross is surmounted by a carved wreath of the roses of England and the lilies of France. The shaft is a monolith, octagonal in form. At its base on four sides are the arms of the county of Hampshire, of the Isle of Wight, of the city of Winchester, and of the Hampshire Regiment. Believed to have been designed by Herbert Baker, Architect. It was unveiled and dedicated on the 31st October 1921 by the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Maj-Gen Seely, MP. Further inscriptions were added for the 1939 - 1945 war. |
