Son of the late John Northway (died 1904) and Frances Holdsworth Northway (died 1876).

Born 1874 Plumstead, Kent.

Attended Isle of Wight College, Appley, Ryde.

1891 Census : John Northway, widower, with two sons including Francis aged 17, are at Buckhurst, Marlborough Road, Ryde. John Northway is "Living on his own means".

1901 Census : Francis Northway not located - presumed to be in South Africa John Northway is at Christchurch Road, Pokesdown, Hampshire.

1911 Census : Francis Northway not located - presumed to be in South Africa

A Passenger List of 1911 (Durban - Southampton) shows F.L .Northway as belonging to the CMR (Cape Mounted Rifles).

NORTHWAY - Killed in Action at Sandfontein, on Sept 26th, Lieut. Francis Louis Northway, 1st South African Mounted Rifles, son of the late John Northway, formerly of Ceylon. Greatly loved.
