Son of Edwin Dimmer and Clara Agnes Dimmer (née Bartrum), of 16 South Street, Ventnor, Isle of Wight.

Born 1898, Ryde.

  Census Information :

1901 : Edward (sic) and Clara A Dimmer, with their son [Edwin] George aged 3, are at Hamstead, Shalfleet. Edward (sic) Dimmer is a Gardener (Domestic).

1911 : Edwin and Clara Agnes Dimmer, with their children including Edwin George aged 12, are at 17 South Street, Ventnor. Edwin Dimmer is a Gardener (Domestic).

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Dimmer, of 16, South Street, have received information that their son, Rifleman E. Dimmer, of D Company 1/8th Hants Regiment, was killed in action in the Dardanelles while on a listening patrol on October 21st. Rifleman Dimmer, who was only 17, was a quiet and much liked young fellow. He was a member of the Ventnor Artillery and Town Band before enlistment. Mr. and Mrs. Dimmer have received many expressions of sympathy in their bereavement.

Note slight discrepancy in date of death given by CWGC and the newspaper report.

KILLED IN ACTION
DIMMER. - Killed in action on October 21st, 1915, while on a listening patrol in the Dardanelles, Rifleman E.G. Dimmer, (D. Coy., 1/8th Hants Regiment), son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Dimmer, 16 South Street, Ventnor, aged 17 years.

Bandsman Dimmer, of the Ventnor Town Brass and Reed Band, joined the Army on Monday. His son, Rifleman E.G. Dimmer, 1/8th Hants Battalion, was killed in Gallipoli.

Edwin Dimmer snr. served as Private 25533 Hampshire Regiment, and later as Private 485291 Labour Corps.
