THE ISLAND AND THE WAR
WHITWELL
Rfn. Lawrence George Deptford was killed in Palestine on November 13th. He was the fourth son of ex-P.C. H. Deptford, and before the war was footman to Mrs. Disney Leith, of the Orchard, Niton. When war broke out he joined the I.W. Rifles, and accompanied them to Gallipoli. He also served in Egypt and India before going to Palestine.
  Notes :

* Only 1 person with the surname DEPTFORD appears in the CWGC records. It seems that the County War Memorial entry is therefore incorrect.
