The aircraft took off from RAF Marham at 22.39 hrs on 21st July 1941 on Ops to Mannheim. Presumably it was lost over Belgium as all the crew are buried in a Collective grave at Coxyde Military Cemetery. Sgt Payne had lived at 49 Atherley Road, Shanklin, Isle of Wight, and later in Southsea, Hampshire. He was recommended for a DFM which was not awarded. |
