ISLE OF WIGHT MERCURY
Friday, May 30, 1941 Page 3 Ventnor Man Presumed Killed on H.M.S. Hood On Monday Mr. and Mrs. Edward Mills, of 26 St. Catherine Street, Ventnor, received the sad news by wire that their second son, Ronald William Mills, first-class stoker, was presumed killed in the H.M.S. Hood disaster. Ronald, who was 22 years of age, had been four years in the Navy, prior to which he was employed for a time at the Rookley brickyards. Mr. and Mrs. Mills have two other sons serving their country. One is a gunner stationed in Iceland, and the other an able seaman at present engaged in mine-sweeping at Singapore. Their father is a respected employee of the East Wight Gas Company at Ventnor. The bereaved parents will have the deepest sympathy of all in their tragic loss.
ISLE OF WIGHT MERCURY
Friday, May 25, 1945 IN MEMORIAM MILLS. - In ever loving memory of our dear son Ronnie, who lost his life in H.M.S. Hood, May 24, 1941. - From Mum and Dad, Brothers and Sisters, and Gran. Never for a moment are you very far away; Absent yet near you seem, and dearer every day. Love is like a bridge that spans the spaces that divide; Parted, yet in dreams we are still altogether, side by side. MILLS. - In memory of Stoker 1st Class Ronald William Mills, who lost his life May 24, 1941, in H.M.S. Hood. - Greatest gift, Remembrance. - Gran. |
