The aircraft took off from RAF Waddington, for operations against communications in Germany. It was hit by flak and crashed near Aachen in Germany. All the crew were killed and were buried at Rheinberg War Cemetery.

P/O Barker had relatives who lived in Sandown, Isle of Wight, but it is not clear if he lived there himself.
