His name is recorded on the Godshill War Memorial, at Wroxall Methodist Church
and at the County War Memorial at Carisbrooke Castle.
Reginald Jacob Saunders was born at Pidford House, Rookley, in 1890, the son of Jacob Saunders (a dairy farmer) and his wife Mary Ann (nee Morris). The family lived at Rookley, but by 1901 they had moved to Winstone Cottage, St Johns Road North, Wroxall. Reginald was educated at Wroxall Board School. In 1911 Reginald was employed by Oliver Hayles as a carpenter at Pagham Cottages, Near Rookley. He emigrated to Australia at the age of 21 shortly after, and settled at Mitchell's Island, Manning River, New South Wales. he is described as an agriculturist in the AWM papers. He was killed in action at Gallipoli.
