The aircraft took off at 22.03 hrs from RAF Skellingthorp for Ops on Bochum but was shot down by nightfighters (Oblt Dietrich Schmit of 8/NJG1) and crashed at 01.30 hrs at Ahaus where all the crew were buried. Subsequently, the crew's bodies were re-interred at Reichswald Forest War Cemetery.

Weber had been a pupil at Bembridge School.
