Location
At Bermuda House, 3 Alexandra Gardens, Ventnor, Isle of Wight Description The property bears a plaque marking Edward Elgar's visit to Ventnor in 1889 during his honeymoon. There have been two previous plaques marking the connection with Elgar. The first plaque, which was put up by the late Mr and Mrs E. Pimm, owners between 1969 and 1976, was lost when a new porch was erected in December 1974 (according to a report in the Isle of Wight County Press). The second plaque was provided by former owners the late Peter Parsons and his wife, Laurie. The second plaque was replaced by a new blue plaque sponsored by the current house owner, Mr John Allen, and the Ventnor & District Local History Society in 2007. The new plaque was unveiled by the Chairman of the Elgar Society, Andrew Neill, on 24th November 2007. |
