Description A metal plaque commemorating the contribution made by members of the United States Coast Guard in the D-Day operations. Unveiled to mark the 50th Anniversary, on 11th June 1994. After the unveiling ceremony the plaque was then permanently fixed to the administration block in the park, and a further plaque marking the provision of colours was installed in 1995. |

GRATEFULLY DEDICATED TO THE BRAVE MEN OF THE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD Who participated in the invasion of Normandy 6th June 1944 U.S.C.G. personnel crewed 97 British and American attack transports, and landing ships, crewed landing craft at all beach heads and provided the sole D-Day Maritime Rescue Service, often under the severest fire. The U.S.C.G. saved the lives of 1,438 Allied Servicemen in the Normandy Assault area during the invasion. Unveiled by Captain Somers U.S.C.G.
