ORP GROM THIS MEMORIAL PLAQUE WAS ERECTED BY THE FRIENDS OF THE ORP BŁYSKAWICA SOCIETY ON THE 4TH MAY 2015 TO MARK THE DAY OF THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE LOSS OF THE POLISH DESTROYER ORP GROM. ORP GROM AND HER SISTER SHIP ORP BŁYSKAWICA WERE CONSTRUCTED IN THE COWES SHIPYARDS OF J S WHITE IN 1935/6. ORP GROM WAS SUNK ON THE 4TH MAY 1940 IN ROMBAKEN FIORD, NARVIK, NORWAY, WITH THE LOSS OF 59 SAILORS WHILST ATTACKING ENEMY POSITIONS. SOME OF THE SURVIVORS WERE LATER TO SERVE ON ORP BŁYSKAWICA WHICH IS THE WORLD'S OLDEST WARSHIP AFLOAT AND IS THE POLISH NAVY'S MUSEUM SHIP LYING IN THE PORT OF GDYNIA, POLAND.
