Description

A stone plinth bearing a cast metal plaque, installed in 2006. Within a few months, an additional plaque was installed, and the smaller round plaque was relocated on the memorial.

WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES DURING OPERATIONS IN
SICILY, SALERNO, NORMANDY, WALCHEREN AND N.W. EUROPE
IN WORLD WAR 2 AND THOSE ISLANDERS WHO TOOK THEM INTO
THEIR HOMES AT BEMBRIDGE, NETTLESTONE, RYDE, ST HELENS
AND SEAVIEW DURING THE WINTER OF 1942 - 1943.
139 OFFICERS AND OTHER RANKS DIED ON ACTIVE SERVICE.
