SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF COLONEL WILLIAM HENRY DENNIE OF CLATTERFORD, IN THIS PARISH, AIDE-DE-CAMP TO THE QUEEN, LIEUTENANT-COLONEL OF THE 13TH OR PRINCE ALBERT'S REGIMENT OF LIGHT INFANTRY, AND COMPANION OF THE BATH. THE SAME PAGE OF HISTORY WHICH RECORDS SUCCESSES OF THE BRITISH ARMS AT GHUZNEE, BAMEEAN, AND JELLALABAD, WILL PROCLAIM THE HISTORIC ZEAL WITH WHICH HE SERVED HIS QUEEN AND COUNTRY. HE FELL ON THE FIELD OF VICTORY APRIL 7TH 1842, AGED 52 YEARS. AFAR FROM CHRISTIAN LANDS, HIS MORTAL REMAINS SLEEP WITHIN THE LINES OF THE NOW DISMANTLED FORTRESS OF JELLALABAD, AWAITING THE RESURRECTION OF THE JUST. "AND HE SHALL SEND HIS ANGELS WITH A GREAT SOUND OF A TRUMPET, AND THEY SHALL GATHER TOGETHER HIS ELECT FROM THE FOUR WINDS, FROM ONE END OF HEAVEN TO THE OTHER."
